  Biting my tongue at last nights bookstudy

  so i went to last nights bookstudy which discusses 6 paragraphs of the daniel book so there was lots of room for comment.

  the study itself already was pretty frustrating it was taken from chapter 17 paragraphs 24-29 and it goes on about how the fds has to be lead by jehovah because of all the prophecies of daniel that fits them (1335 days was this convention to that etc etc).

  but the paragraphs also mention the failed prediction for 1925. here are some interresting quotes from the book: .

  Oh man, just reading what the JW's were commenting made me (almost) want to go to a book study just to hear what BS they came up with.

  It always gets me when they say no one other than the JW's are doing preaching work. I think other churches are much more effective. The Mormans immediately come to mind, but there are other groups as well. The Baptists in my area a quite active in going door to door. Unfortunately I've never been home when they've been by, but they leave tracts/etc in the mail box. The church I sometimes attend has outreach programs both locally and abroad. The most definately are not the only group preaching.

  yesterday was such a beautiful day and i needed to goet out anad get some fresh air.

  i was kind of looking for prices of laptops as i felt that the dest top is in my living room and being sick so much lately and with my desk top pc wouldn't fit into my bedroom so i thought of getting a lap top.

  and way there is a store on our street that is small and sells pc's and laptops.

  Oh man!! What a way to spend your outing - talking to a JW with full blinders on.

  I don't think I'd be too happy as an employer knowing that an employee was talking religion with my customers.

  I get something similar. I work in a tax office and I deal with alot of immigrants - most from the Sudan.

  For the most part they are ok to deal with, the majority find pretty good paying factory jobs soon after they come here, but they always complain about having to pay taxes, how they cannot deduct the money the send to their families back home, etc.

  It upsets me how they complain about living in a war free country, with "free" health care, "free" schooling for their children etc. Canada is a pretty good place to live, and they chose to come here. If it's so terrible why are they trying so hard to get the rest of their family into the country?

  Inquisition scheduled for tonight

  i need some input on how to proceed with a scheduled meeting with elders i haven't seen in 18mo.

  i have not attended a meeting in over 2yrs.

  they sent a letter requesting my presents at 8:00 pm tonight.

  Where do we go? The place over half of those left sitting in those chairs on a Sunday in the KH want to go - anywhere but the KH.

  Saturdays and Sundays are spent sleeping in, going to the farmers market, out for breakfast, nice long walks in the park, etc, etc, etc. Tuesday and Thursday evenings are spent relaxing, getting to watch our favourite TV shows if we want to, Thursday is ladies night at the bar etc, etc, etc. Take your pick or add your own favourite place you want to go.

  P.S. - Notice how this JW asked where we go when we leave the "society"? Hhmmm that says alot doesn't it.

  why do they never phone first and make an appointment?

  i have asked them to do this but they won't comply.

  In Canada it's not illegal to own a gun, you just have to have the proper permits (FAC), but it is illegal to use pepper spray on anything other than a bear (or in the case of letter carriers - dogs) Just be careful you don't end up with an assault charge. I'm also pretty sure you could call your super instead of waiting for the police - supers sometimes are able to issue certain tickets (parking, trespassing etc.). They shouldn't be allowed to enter a locked apartment building without permission from the tenant they are visiting.

  When I was in charge of arranging shepherding, we actually made appointments with each family

  Confession - you sounded like a great elder!! In all fairness to the elders here, when it was a shepherding call the elders always called beforehand and made an appointment.

  I know exactly what you mean Jez - they never call here either. When I'm home alone I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone to come over, or I can peek out the kitchen window and see who's there. If we're both home and they come knocking I usually send hubby!

  E-mail response from an old dub friend......

  okay, so i suppose i asked for this...but regardless i'm ready to puke!

  last week i e-mailed an old "dub" friend from another city.

  she's had some health issues and i hadn't heard from her for a few months, and wanted to know how she was doing....her brother also recently got married and i asked about that as well.

  Reading that email reminds me of the letters I get from my mom - it's all about the "organization". It makes me want to puke!! I don't respond to them, or even acknowledge I've received it.

  I don't know how I'd respond in your case - but I would be very careful about what you put in writing, you don't know who she would show (elders) the response to. Maybe just thank her for her concern, tell her you are working things out etc.
